TTC 2007-2009 Orion 07.501 VII NG HEV #1200-#1423
#1200-#1423, a 2007-2009 Orion 07.501 VII NG HEVs ordered, built, and delivered in 2007-2009. This is the seventh batch of VIIs ordered by the TTC, their second hybrids, and the first VII NG batch delivered. These vehicles were delivered concurrently with #1500-#1689. This series is an option from #1000-#1149 (from contract C32PY04839 issued in May 2005) for an additional 220 buses (either hybrids or diesels) could be exercised with the addition to the purchase of 320 buses for delivery in 2007 (comprised of 100 Ridership Growth buses and 220 replacement buses), and the 140 buses for delivery in 2008, due to need for buses to support warranty activities for the new bus fleet and for streetcar replacement during the track rehabilitation program. This requirement was discussed in the Bus Fleet Plan in the TTC 2007-2011 Capital Program. As these were the first production Orion VII NG HEV models produced, there were problems with these buses which lead to many being out of service awaiting replacement parts. Due to unreliability of the sealed lead acid (SLA) energy storage batteries, these buses are having the batteries replaced with Lithium ion batteries by MTB and Jet (automotive technology company) in 2009-2010. The new batteries' housing are the rounded covers used by Orion. The differences are incorporated features that were found to be desired by sutomers.
